A Qatar airways flight from Singapore to Doha via Bangkok had to be diverted, and made a priority landing at Kolkata airport after a Saudi Arabian passenger took ill mid air.

Fifty three year old Saudi Arabian, Al Solami Meadi Medkhill, was on a flight from Singapore to Doha via Bangkok, when he complained of lower abdomen pain after one hour of the flight. The pain became unbearable, which forced the pilot to make a priority landing at the nearest airport, Kolkata.

The patient who is admitted to a private hospital in Salt Lake, is being attended by doctors who explained that a piece of a kidney stone had made its way into the urethra, causing him extreme pain and distress.

An airport official explaining the case said, “There was no doctor on the flight. The crew members informed the pilot about Medkhill’s condition.”

“Unless the stone is removed, the pain will return. But Medkhill does not want to be treated here. He has spoken to the Saudi embassy in Delhi. We are discharging him on a risk bond,” said a hospital official.
