He said Tirupati and Shimla are the two towns in India which have been selected for the Pilot Project.

"We have selected fifteen hotels here in Shimla for the project. In Tirupati, we started in 2010 and there the project is almost at the final stage. Here in Shimla we are taking category hotels. We started in May this year, it was difficult in the beginning but now we are getting a good response," said Sharma.

"Energy preservation and environmental conservation is the need of the day. I hope others will learn from this," he added.

The program coordinator from Austria is instructing the hoteliers here in Shimla about lighting, energy saving and waste management areas in tourism industry.

The project is in second phase here and is expected to be completed by early next year.

The Austrian Coordinator from Stenum, Markus Moeller, who is the consultant of the project, said that the main emphasis in the project is on resource efficiency.

"Actually we are here to tell them (hoteliers) about the energy management, utilization of water and other areas in hotel industry. We are emphasizing on the resource efficiency. This kind of eco projects are very important in today's tourism and travel industry business," said Moeller.

"This is the beginning I hope in coming days we would be able to look forward," he added.
