Live Webcast of Surgery to Showcase Robot-Assisted Surgical Technology

Seattle’s Swedish Orthopedic Institute has set up a live webcast of a minor surgery on Tuesday morning in a bid to increase the interest in its latest robot-assisted surgical technology.

Viewers can watch as doctors conduct a partial knee replacement surgery on a 70 year old patient and can also talk live to an orthopedic surgeon as well as ask any questions via Twitter.

This is not the first time that such a webcast has taken place with Illinois’ Sherman Hospital having conducted the first ever webcast of a surgery back in 2009.

The surgery will be conducted by the hospital’s orthopedic surgeon, Dr Sean Toomey while the webcast will be moderated by Dr Hames Crutcher.

The complete surgery will be shown live on the internet which means that those with a weak stomach are advised not to view the webcast. The hospital has already taken the permission of the patient and will be hoping to showcase its newest technology.
