International- Infasurf. This medication is an intratracheal suspension, prescribed for the prevention of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature infants. When it is not to be taken (Contraindications):
When it is to be taken : The recommended dose is 3 mL/kg birth weight. It has been administered every 12 hours for a total of up to 3 doses. How it should be taken : It comes as a suspension for intratracheal (introduced into the trachea) administration. Special Instruction : * It should be administered under the supervision of well-trained person. * In some patients it may develop increased risk of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and periventricular leukomalacia (PVL). Side Effects : Most Common- Blue baby, respiratory obstruction, slow heart rate, reflux of surfactant into the endotracheal tube and requirement for manual ventilation. Respiratory- Shortness of breath, sepsis, air leaks in lungs, bleeding in the lungs, tissue death and further worsening of condition. *Avoid excess dosage. Storage Conditions : Store it in refrigerator (2° to 8°C), do not freeze it. |
