Tattoos – A Body Art - The other side of Tattoos

The other side of Tattoos

The world at large views a tattoo - sporting adult warily. They may be barred from entering certain facilities or even denied employment. In some places, such as El Salvador, they may be arrested. In Japan, signboards are displayed barring those with graphic tattoos from entering gymnasiums and bath houses. This is to keep out the notorious, criminally- inclined Yazuka (it is the largest known crime organization in the world).

Even the term ‘tramp-stamp’ does not endow honor on a woman with a tattoo, especially on the lower back.

Studies have revealed that tattoos and body modifications among teen girls are usually associated with low self - esteem. Some like to interpret it as an "attempt to attain mastery and control over the body in an age of increasing alienation”.

In some countries it is illegal to tattoo -

  • A minor (even with parents’ consent).
  • Physically/ mentally impaired individuals .
  • Those with contraindicated skin conditions.
  • Pregnant or nursing women.
  • Those under the influence of alcohol/ drugs.

Remember….a tattoo could be a gentle expression and not be an abuse writ large!
