ENT and Plastic Surgeon Dr.

P. Thulasi Das and his team has performed an Endoscopic surgery for Frontal Sinus cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) leak to a 25 years old patient in Venkateswara Hospital in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. The patient was suffering from meningitis. Meningitis is the inflammation of the meninges that covers the brain and spinal cord, meningitis is caused by bacterial or fungal infections. Cerebrospinal fluid is produced in the inner ventricles of the brain and is present around brain and spinal cord which provides a fluid cushion support to the brain and spinal cord and protects these organs from injury and in CSF rhinorrhoea condition leakage of the CSF occurs through the nose which is blocked by cartilage replacement. The frontal CSF leak Endoscopic surgery is done for the first time in India and has shown successful recovery and treatment for the patient. CSF leak treatment in the forntal sinus usually involves surgery in which it leads to scarring of the face, but this Endoscopic surgery involved closing the sinus CSF leak of the posterior wall of right frontal sinus using the patients ear cartilage.
