A national conclave will be opened by India’s Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss on 29 November 2005. The conclave will review the progress made towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) for health.

The conclave is expected to make recommendations and suggestions, and lay down an agenda for achieving the goals, according to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) sources.

Health Secretary Prasanna Hota, CII Chief Yogi Deveshwar, and the head of the lobby's national committee on population and health Naina Lal Kidwai will also address the conclave.

In 2000, the global community made a historic commitment by laying down the MDG to be achieved by 2015.

Three out of the eight goals are directly related to health.

'In 2005, we are a little more than halfway towards the MDG target date,' a CII statement said.
