US Offers Specialized Equipment To Fight Bird Flu In Nigeria

The United States has supplied the latest equipment and supplies worth $356 500 To Nigeria in an effort to help the African country battle bird flu.

The US embassy in Nigeria said that this equipment includes sprayers, rubber boots, GPS units, first aid kits, gloves and disinfecting brushes. US ambassador John Campbell said, "We have not given up the fight to stamp out this horrible disease." He added that the Nigerian government had helped during Hurricane Katrina "so when your government made these supply shortages known to us, we were only too happy to help." More than 450 000 birds have died after an outbreak of bird flu in poultry farms in the country. Nigeria is Africa's most populous country.
