Take Care of Economically Deprived Pregnant Women

Two exclusive centers for destitute pregnant women will be created in the state, so that such women are not on the streets during the most vulnerable period of their lives.

The Delhi High Court, has taken immediate action by directing the state government to institute two such centres dedicated to destitute pregnant women in the city and provide them with necessary medical facilities.

In response to the death of a pregnant woman after she delivered on the streets, Chief Justice Dipak Misra has completely refused to accept the claim by the government that there are seven other centers which can look into such cases.

"We cannot remain silent spectators, waiting for the government to move at a tortoise’s pace and allow destitute pregnant women to die on the streets of Delhi. Such a situation cannot be countenanced, and cannot be visualised, in view of the fundamental right to life and liberty," said Justice Misra.
