Swine Flu Awareness Campaign in Rajkot

Thousands of students took to streets and launched an awareness campaign on swine flu here on Friday.

Holding placards and banners depicting the causes and prevention of Swine Flu, students from various colleges and departments of the Saurashtra University informed locals about the dangers of spreading swine flu in the city and surrounding areas.

The faculty members also joined the campaign.

Students said that they want to create awareness regarding this deadly virus as the cases are increasing in Gujarat.

"We want that the swine flu should go away from our city Rajkot so that we can have a healthy life," noted Sonara Poonam, a student.

"Incidents of swine flu are increasing in Gujarat specially in Rajkot. Swine flu, is being spread by H1N1 virus...a number of people are dying...to protect people from this, we have launched this campaign today to spread awareness among people so that they protect themselves from the swine flu," said Surbhi Limbasiya, another student.

Swine Flu has claimed more than 40 lives in Rajkot only. More than 120 deaths were reported from all across Gujarat.

More than 800 persons have succumbed to this deadly virus in India and around 24,500 people have tested positive for the H1N1 virus, which was first detected in Hyderabad in May.

Maharashtra and Karnataka were the worst affected states of the country. At least 249 people have died in Maharashtra while the virus has claimed 128 lives in Karnataka.

New Delhi is worst affected in terms of number of infected people, where 8,751 people have tested positive for H1N1.
