Siblings of Autistic Kids Develop Hyperactivity

by Rajshri on Mar 11 2010 9:14 PM

A new study has found that siblings of kids with autism may develop hyperactivity. Furthermore, it also found that mothers of autistic kids suffer more depression and stress compared to mothers of normal kids.

The study compared the impact of autism on family members and found that siblings of autistic kids needed to make more adjustments related to social, behavioral and academical adaptability.

While parents did not report any problem with older siblings of autistic kids, teachers said they exhibited fidgeting, movement and attention problems.

The study is published in the March issue of the journal Focus on Autism and Other Developmental Disabilities
