Australia's advertising watchdog has pointed out that sex in adverting does not go well with Aussies.

According to the Advertising Standards Bureau, 41 per cent of complaints in 2009 involved sex, nudity or sexuality in advertising, up from 26 per cent in 2008.

However, complaints about violence fell to a mere 8 per cent from 18 per cent a year earlier, reports the Age.

The complaint statistics for last year also showed that the share relating to discrimination or vilification come down to 16 per cent from 23 per cent.

Women maintained their lead as the most vocal complainants, filing 59 per cent of complaints.

On the whole, the number of complaints rose by 200 to 3796, the second highest for the decade.
