Safety Concern Over Conventional Tie Knots

by Savitha C Muppala on May 20 2009 11:59 AM

Are conventional tie knots actually safe ? A new study has revealed inherent risks.

Research by the Schoolwear Association, which represents uniform manufacturers, said that at least 10 schools a week are switching to clip-on ties because of fears of ties getting caught in equipment or strangling pupils.

Headteachers also claim that traditional ties look scruffy as students wear fat knots or short tails as part of the latest fashion craze.

The research said there had been increasing demand for 'safer' ties since January, reports the Telegraph.

It found that around 25 British schools change their ties every week, with almost half of those opting for clip-ons.

However, the Campaign for Real Education criticized the move as 'health and safety gone mad'.
