The dengue virus was detected in patients in Nandigram village in Jagatsinghpur, district chief medical officer Sukadev Sethy told IANS. Jagatsinghpur is about 120 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
A medical team visited the village and has started treatment. It collected 12 blood samples from patients and sent them to Regional Medical Research Centre in Bhubaneswar. Their report, however, is awaited.
But a state epidemiological investigation team of the Sri Ram Chandra Bhanja Medical College (SCB) medical college in Cuttack visited the village and collected blood samples from 10 patients. Sethy said the serological test had detected the dengue virus.
"We have deputed a medical team, provided mosquito nets and medicines to the villagers. We have also distributed leaflets to create awareness," he said.
