Men Have Higher Risk of Suffering from Sports-Related Sudden Death Than Women
A new study conducted by French researchers has found that men were 20 times more likely to die during exercise or playing sports compared to women.
Researchers at Paris Descartes University questioned emergency workers across France about their experience in dealing with sudden cardiac death and found that in total, around 775 people died during exercising, of which only 35 were women.

Cycling seemed to be the most lethal form of exercise for men with 6.6 deaths for every one million men compared to 0.3 deaths for every one million women. Jogging came second with 4.8 male deaths per million compared to 0.7 female deaths while swimming was third with 1.0 male deaths per million compared to 0.2 female deaths.

“Compared with men, we found a lower incidence of sports-related sudden death in women and differences by age and sport. The observed sex differences may be a result of variation in the rate of sports participation between men and women”, the researchers wrote in their report.
