 Increase in Child Violence
An increase in violence on children in England and Wales has been worrying, according to the Cardiff University study, an annual and authoritative source.
The study disclosed that although the overall trend of violence affecting all age groups has gone down impressively by 11 per cent, young children are facing increasing violence from their peers as well as adults, worrying experts. In fact the number of children admitted for treatment has gone up by 20 per cent. There was an 8% increase the previous year according to Cardiff University professor Jonathan Shepherd. He warned: "The trend is going on the wrong track."

Experts, analyzing the causes of the problem state that the economic downturn, rising costs of childcare, and an increased drinking habit may be causing children to become victims of the frustrations in society. They are being increasingly exposed to at-risk situations.

Sean O’Neill, policy director at Children in Wales, said that the study is “another clear reminder, if one was required, of society’s need to effectively protect young children and for this to be seen as a national priority.”
