Home-Made Leg Prostheses Developed by the Army
Home-made leg prostheses are being developed by the U.S Army and in a noteworthy achievement, a group of soldiers have made a custom prototype for an eight-year-old boy who lost both his legs.
To help people in Afghanistan who are injured by mines and bombs, locals need to be trained to develop their own prostheses from available materials. This will be a boon to people who have lost their limbs, as it will help them get back mobility quickly, rather than waste time waiting for external help.

A simple cast fixed on to a sturdy metal rod with a flat hook makes up the prototype and it is fairly simple to fit the cast.

There is also a plan to help Afghan doctors in the area to make their own prosthetics and to help them impart training to victims on the use of the leg.
