GSK Facing Avandia Lawsuits in Britain
Legal troubles associated with its diabetes drug Avandia continue for GlaxoSmithKline with the company facing at least four lawsuits in Britain.
GSK had recently settled lawsuits in the United States, paying out more than $3 billion following claims that the company illegally marketed the drug in the country. There are also claims that Avandia increases risk of heart attacks and congestive heart failure among its users.

All of the four lawsuits in Britain were filed by Manchester firm Express Solicitors with one of the lawyers, Daniel Slade stating that the firm has 15 additional clients and the number of claims may increase.

“We expect the number of claims to increase as there are potentially thousands of people out there who took Avandia in the UK. Even though a settlement was reached in the U.S. to settle lawsuits, it seems GSK wishes to put up a fight in the UK as indicated in correspondence pre-proceedings”, Slade said.
