Girls Outshines Boys In CICSE Exam

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) declared the results for both class 10 (ICSE) and class 12 (ISC) here Wednesday with girls outshining boys for the second consecutive year.

The pass percentage of girls in the Class 10 examination was 96.9 as against 95.29 among boys. Similarly, in Class 12, 95.96 percent of the girls were successful as compared to 91 percent among the boys.

Around 1,500 schools are affiliated to the CISCE board both in India and abroad. Outside the country the board has presence in Dubai, Sharjah, Indonesia, Singapore and Bhutan. Only two schools in Delhi are affiliated to the CISCE board.

The CISCE said they are quite satisfied with the result as Class 12 and 10 have recorded a pass-out rate of 93 and 96 percent respectively.

"The Class 10 results are slightly better and Class 12 results are at par with 2005 results. Like last year, girls have outshone boys this year too," CISCE deputy secretary Rita Wilson said.

"Though the number of boys are more than the number of girls, it is sheer hard work that has helped them score better marks than boys. We hope the competition will increase and students will continue to perform better," Wilson told IANS.

The ratio of girls and boys, who had appeared for both the boards, in March this year, were 44 girls to 56 boys.

Out of the 43,034 students who appeared for the Class 12 exam from 586 schools, 40,249 have passed. In Class 10, a total of 91,781 students of 1,277 schools took the exam, of which 88,114 have got through.

In Class 12, the highest percentage stood at 98.25 percent. In Class 10, the highest score was 97.6 percent.

In Class 10, 1,032 students including 537 boys and 495 girls were awarded Grade-1 for securing more than 90 percent. In class 12, 493 candidates - 236 boys and 257 girls - were awarded the top grade.
