CHIP Includes Dental Coverage

by Medindia Content Team on Mar 28 2006 12:38 PM

The Children's Health Insurance Program, CHIP, a state health insurance program, in Texas, now includes dental coverage for children enrolled under this plan.

The CHIP is an insurance program mainly for the working poor who cannot afford private insurance while at the same time do not qualify for Medicaid.

Last year the firm, Accenture took over the CHIP screening. At the same time eligibility rules for the CHIP program underwent a change. Confusion resulted with these simultaneous changes with many families without any health insurance for their children.

Along with the changes many services like dental and vision coverage were removed from this plan.

Since then lawmakers have restored these services back, enabling children to meet a dentist from Saturday onwards.
