CDC Warns People Not to Consume Raw Cookie Dough
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released a new report warning people not to eat raw cookie dough after linking it to the E.Coli outbreak back in 2009.
Over 77 people in 30 different states fell ill due to the outbreak with many of them needing hospitalization. While the CDC is yet to find out the exact ingredient that sparked the outbreak, lead author of the report, Dr Karen Neil revealed that raw flour was the culprit.

Speaking to abcnews.com, Dr Neil said that food items that are supposed to be baked or cooked are not checked stringently for pathogens and added that the companies manufacturing the products should make sure that they are safer as a ready-to-eat product.

“You should not consume raw cookie dough or any other raw product that’s intended to be baked or cooked, and food should always be prepared according to the recipe or instructions”, Dr Neil said. The report has been published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.
