A relatively novel technique for pain relief has been developed at the armed forces medical college in Pune, India, which holds a lot of promise in alleviating extreme pain, during advanced stages of cancer.

The Para Vertebral Neurolytic block, which is a concoction of anaesthetic and absolute alcohol, is capable of relieving pain when injected into the para vertebral space. This works by blocking the nerves that transmit the pain sensation. Many cancer patients have found relief after being treated with this form of pain relief treatment.

This will certainly improve the life of many cancer patients suffering advanced stages of cancer and in the throes of excruciating pain.
