Cancer Patients Face Grave Risk from Cold

Britain’s biggest cancer charity organization has urged the government to extend winter fuel payment for terminal patients

Britain’s biggest cancer charity organization has urged the government to extend winter fuel payment for terminal patients warning that more than 25 percent of terminally ill patients will be forced to spend the winter in the bed.

According to Macmillan Cancer Support, at least one in four cancer patients will be spending winter in the bed as they cannot afford to pay high costs of fuel needed for heating.

Professor Jane Maher, who is the chief medical officer at the charity organization, said that this will prove to be detrimental for the recovery of the patients who will already be exhausted after intense chemotherapy.

“I see cancer patients suffering from exhaustion during and after treatment all the time. Add the factor of 'feeling cold' to exhaustion and you are left with seriously demotivated cancer patients that can do little other than go back to bed to stay warm and conserve energy”, she said.
