Australia has offered a munificent $15 million to assist Lebanon to rise from the ashes following its catastrophic clash with Israel. According to Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, Australia has managed to aid Lebanon with a total of $24 million during the post-conflict time, to help rebuild a country in ruins.

"The majority of the funding will support restoring health infrastructure and providing adequate access to health facilities and services, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women and children," he said.

Mr. Downer confirmed that the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) would get $5 million for commencement of recovery programs that will restore basic services like water and sanitation. The World Health Organization will receive $2.5 million to get the country's health infrastructure and services back in action.

Mr. Downer confirming Australia’s commitment said "Australia remains strongly committed to assisting the government of Lebanon in its recovery efforts. I am pleased that hostilities in southern Lebanon have ceased, allowing the Lebanese to rebuild their lives with the help of the international community."
