According to a new research, 2/3 women would consider moving their house to access IVF on the National Health Service (NHS) as according to the present guidelines the NHS makes these decisions based on the health priorities of their local population.

For women aged 23-29 years who faced fertility problems, The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (Nice) had asked the NHS to provide free funding for three cycles of In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF). This was in 2004. However, since then various trusts have slashed funding for IVF and more cuts are expected this year.

A survey conducted by Department of Health in 2009 showed that 30% of health trusts offered three free cycles, 23% two cycles while 47% offered one free cycle. A survey conducted last year by Pulse magazine reveals that 1 in 5 of all primary care trusts (PCTs) had cut down the funding for IVF in the last 3-years while 8 PCTs had not funded any IVF treatment since 2-years.
