Glossary

Caries: It is a destructive process causing decalcification of the tooth enamel and leading to the continued destruction of enamel and dentine, and cavitation of the tooth.

Plaque: Thin layer of food debris and bacteria, which covers the tooth surface.

Rubber dam: It is a rectangular sheet of latex used by dental professionals to perform root-canal treatments, to maintain isolation in some dental procedures, and for tooth colored fillings.

Gingival tissue: It is a part of the oral mucosa that covers the maxilla and the mandible inside the mouth.

Tooth enamel: It is a hard white outer layer of the teeth that protects the tooth from tooth decay.
