Women Tend to Imitate Eating Habits of Dining Companions
A new study conducted by researchers from the Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands has said that women imitate their companions when dining and eat as much as their partners do.
The researchers observed the eating habits of 70 women who were sent out to dine in pairs. They found that the participants copied the eating habits of their partners and ate the same quantity and in the same pace, usually within 5 seconds of their partners taking a bite.

The researchers found that the women were three times more likely to imitate their partners at the start of their meeting in an attempt to ingratiate themselves with each other. The study has been published in the journal PLoS One.

Commenting on the results of the study, lead researcher Roel Hermans said, β€œIn our study, two previously unknown women were interacting with each other, and it is possible that their motive to get along with each other, or their motivation to be liked, might have increased their likelihood of mimicry.”
