Agra: A team of medical specialists have left for Pakistan to participate in a conference on women's reproductive rights, infertility, menopause , medical education, contraception and safe abortion and its relevance in the South Asian region.
Federation of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Societies of India (FOGSI) chief Narendra Malhotra has left for Lahore along with a 70-member delegation to participate in the sixth South Asian Federation of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SAFOG) meet that begins there Thursday.The three-day conference will boost understanding of socio-medical problems in both India and Pakistan, said Jaideep Malhotra, a doctor and executive committee member of SAFOG.
"Only a healthy population and healthy mothers can lead to a healthy nation and prosperous future," he added.
"Farrukh Zaman and Rashid Latiff are the organising chairpersons of the conference and both are very happy that over 600 delegates will visit Lahore from Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bhutan and Myanmar," Malhotra said.
The Indian delegation is carrying desi sweets like laddoos, Agra ka petha, mementoes and gifts for their counterparts in Pakistan.
The conference will focus on infertility, which is highest in South-East Asia. Detailed discussions will be held on women's sexual and reproductive rights, medical education and contraception and safe abortions. Other topics to be discussed are ultrasound, menopause, infections and high-risk pregnancy.
