Heart disease is not to be feared so much as cancer, according to The Victorian Burden of Disease Study, which infers that cancer, is the single most cause of sickness and death in Victoria.

It is the rural areas where most poor live that seems to be facing the brunt of diseases. The wealthy seem to be afflicted with more of the breast and prostrate cancer types. In certain government localities, mental health problems also seem to be on the rise along with heart problems and cancer.

Health Minister Bronwyn Pike said "We have increased the yearly budget of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre by more than $35 million and recently announced $15 million for the Victorian cancer agency."
