Skin Cancer Gene Identified by Scientists
The world’s largest study of skin cancer genetics by scientists in Australia and the United States has led to the discovery of a mutant gene responsible for almost one in 10 melanomas.
During the study, researchers analyzed every gene in 147 melanomas and they discovered the same mutation was present in almost 10 per cent of them.

"Because it is a mutation that is an accelerator of tumor growth and development, it lends itself very well to drug targeting to come up with new therapies to treat this disease," Prof Nick Hayward said.

Prof Hayward said that the finding confirms the connection between sun exposure and skin cancer.
