Increasing the awareness of drug abuse, especially among youth, can help end the menace of the problem, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse here, Jaitley said, social menaces can never be cured by the law alone, but with the participation of society at large.

He also directed officers to look at the misuse of indigenous medicinal plants for manufacturing synthetic drugs.

United Nations General Assembly in 1987 decided to observe June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
