We may soon have equally nourishing alternatives to fish meal.

According to research from University of Illinois research, fermented soybean meal and enzyme-treated soybean meal may be a good alternative to fish meal in weanling pig diets.

According to Hans H. Stein, Professor of animal sciences at University of Illinois, the escalating costs of fish meal is making producers look for equally good options for weanling pig diets.

Weanling pigs cannot digest some of the antigens and compounds present in raw soybean meal. The process of fermentation and enzyme treatment helps remove some of the antigens, thus making it easily digestible.
