A wedding hall in Chinnamanur in Theni district is now requiring brides and grooms to get a no HIV certificate before the wedding.
This condition was revealed when 25-year-old autorickshaw driver, Selvam was ditched before his wedding as he was HIV positive. E Muthu, member of the managing board of the marriage hall and also the state organizer of the Muvender Munnetra Kazhagam said the step was taken after it emerged that many women in the surrounding villages had lost their husbands to AIDS.
