Sugar variant may make a world of difference to Alzheimers disease

A novel study by Canadian researchers has revealed that variants of a sugar, is found to improve Alzheimers disease in mice. Though these studies are still in ithe nascent stages, these findings could mean better methods of treatment to manage Alzheimers and even offset the onslaught.

A type of sugar, termed as cyclohexanehexol, or inositol did not cause the collection of amyloid â deposits, which is significant in Alzheimers disease. A treatment based on this, Scyllo-inositol treatment is known to have enhanced the cognitive potential of mice. The study has been published in the online edition of the journal Nature Medicine.
