Statins reduces cardiovascular risk but no cancer risk.

Statins which is used for reducing the cardiovascular risk by lowering the cholesterol levels was also reported by some researchers that it has anti-cancer benefits. Two individual studies by Professor Michael White, University of Connecticut and Professor Eric Jacobs, American Cancer Society have found that statins don’t reduce the incidence of cancer and has disagreed with some researchers reporting the anti-cancer effects of statins.

Professor Michael White has reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association data from review of 26 clinical trials using 86,000 patients and found that statins do reduce cholesterol levels but is not found to prevent from cancer occurrence, it is also found that as an anti-inflammatory drug, statins kills the immune cells leading to survival of cancer cells. Professor Eric Jacobs has reported in the Journal of National Cancer Institute by undergoing review of study conducted by Israeli scientists who proved that statins reduce the cancer occurrence by 45%, Jacobs team found that they were not able to reproduce the same data in their lab to find the benefits of anticancer effects of statins.
