A British consumer watchdog has hit out against cereal manufacturers claiming that the amount of sugar contained in the products is high enough to store them alongside chocolate biscuits in the market shelves. Which? magazine found that 12 of the 14 popular brands of cereals available in the market contained very high levels of sugar. Kellogg's Frosties was found to be the worst offender with 37 percent sugar while supermarket chocolate rice cereals came a close second. Around 50 brands of cereals were tested by Which? with over 32 brands containing high levels of sugar. Stating that manufacturers and retailers should be doing more to provide healthier options, Which? executive director Richard Lloyd said, "Parents will be particularly surprised by the fact that the majority of children's cereals contain so much sugar. More action is needed by retailers and manufacturers to provide a wider choice of healthier cereals."
