Malaysia's First Double Organ Transplant Recipient Dies
A Malaysian woman who earlier this month became the country's first double organ transplant recipient with a new heart and lungs died Tuesday, a report said.

Siti Salmah Jasni, 18, never left hospital after her transplant although doctors had taken her off a respirator Monday after she showed signs of improvement, state news agency Bernama reported.

Hospital officials could not be reached for comment and Bernama did not state the cause of death.

Siti survived just 25 days on her new organs, Bernama said, adding that her blood pressure dropped sharply before she died.

Siti, who suffered from pulmonary hypertension, had undergone the transplant operation at the heart institute on November 2. She had received the heart and lungs of a woman who was killed in an accident.

Siti had been on the donor waiting list since 2005 and is expected to be buried in the southern Johor state of Kulai, hospital authorities said.
