 London Celebrates Notting Hill Carnival
For the first day of the Notting Hill Carnival, hundreds of thousands of revellers flooded the streets of west London on Sunday with police making 93 arrests.
The first day of the Europe's biggest street festival is traditionally children's day and thousands lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the decorated floats and their exuberantly dressed occupants.

The celebration of Caribbean culture, food, music and dance is now in its 49th year and was blessed with clear skies despite a wet start to the day.

As of 10.00pm the Met Police had arrested 93 people for several different offences including sexual assault, assaults on police, carrying of offensive weapons and 30 for suspected drug crimes.

A police spokesman said 6,000 officers were present on Sunday, with a 1,000 more on duty on Monday, the festival's main day.
