The trusts of NHS of UK are on a desperate measure to save money. This could mean that patients could be denied treatment until the next financial year.
The British Medical Association chairman announced this recently.The doctors voiced the opinion, through Mr. Johnson, that they would not support this move. Further said,"We doctors are not going to be party to playing silly games of this sort. We are not going to say we have a bed free but you can't have your operation until next year. It is up to the trusts and the PCTs to sort out their own financial pressures."
On the side of the trust the motion is that the cash-strapped trust had been forced to restrict the treatment to only the most desperate cases in an attempt to cut costs.
Mr Johnson also criticized the restructuring of PCTs, which was also condemned as "ill thought-out" by the Commons Health Committee today. Mr Johnson said: "They could not have picked a worse time to choose to restructure the health service."
He said it was a "disaster" for people in the service to live with the constant restructuring, especially as PCTs were only created three years ago.
The fight continues and only time will tell what the final outcome would be.
