Fake Encounter With Cancer

by Medindia Content Team on Apr 30 2007 1:51 PM

You could call this a cancer of the mind. Aiming to make a fast buck, a woman made a show of sickness, deliberately raising funds for her treatment against liver cancer. She had swindled to the tune of $20,000 to avail chemotherapy for a recurrent liver cancer, as she would have people believe.

Jean Anne Allen, 36, was pulled up by the police after they were able to gather enough evidence about the deceit. She was not on any of the treatments that she had claimed to undergo.

According to the police, she had managed to hoodwink many with her sordid story. Infact, friends and colleagues had come together for a spaghetti-supper fundraiser to help Allen with funds for chemotherapy.

If the lady in question is convicted for deception she will face a five year term in prison. For the moment she is out on a bond of $10,000. The next hearing for this case is on May 8th, when Allen’s fate will be debated in the court.
