Eight-year-old Jacob Pagone, With Type 1 Diabetes, is Brand Ambassador for Charity Event
Jacob Pagone, 8, the youth ambassador of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk to cure Diabetes, showed others the courage to live with diabetes. The event was organized to raise funds for the research in JDRF.
In the U.S, more than a million people, both adults and children, live with type 1 diabetes. Jacob was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2009 when he was two-years-old. The first six months after diagnosis was a painful one for the family and the child, describes his mother.

Becky Pagone of Sioux Falls, mother of Jacob said, "We were fortunate enough, he was not really sick when we went to the hospital." He checks his blood sugar levels, 12 times a day and injects insulin six times as the disease attacks the pancreas limiting the ability to produce insulin.

Jacob Pagone said, "If I was (levels were) high, I would probably have to take a shot. If I was low I would probably have to eat something or take a tab slash medicine."

Though he misses out certain important things like recess and sleepovers, Jacob is excited about being the ambassador for JDRF. The organization brings hope and support that people like her son, her sister, and her father-in-law will no longer have to live with it.
