Haloperidolis used for treating psychotic disorders like psychosis caused by drugs, schizophrenia and manic phase of bipolar disorder.
It is used incontrolling symptoms of Tourette’s syndrome likemotor tics (uncontrollable repeated body movements) and verbal tics (uncontrollable repeated sounds or words).
It is used for controlling resistant hiccups.
It is also used to treat some behavioral issues like explosive, aggressive behavior or hyperactivity in patients who cannot be treated with psychotherapy or with other medications.
Haloperidol works by normalizing the abnormal excitement in the brain by reducing the level of dopamine.
