Bladder Tumor for Patient Education


About- It is usually a type of cancer usually a transitional cell carcinoma that affects the bladder. Smoking is a risk factor for the cancer. Workers from dye industry can get affected.

Presentation - Hematuria or blood in the urine.

Appearance - Occurs as a polypoidal projection from the inner surface of the urinary bladder.

Complication - If it invades the muscle, can cause impairment of drainage of urine across the ureteric orifice resulting in dilatation of kidney and ureter.

Treatment - Trans-urethral resection is the initial treatment of choice.
However if it penetrates the muscles of the bladder removal is the treatment of choice.
