Encephalitis is defined as the inflammation and swelling of the brain. It is a rare, but life-threatening condition. It can affect persons belonging to any age group, but the very young and elderly are at the highest risk. Encephalitis often causes mild, flu-like symptoms such as fever, body ache, headache and fatigue. In some cases, it can be serious and life-threatening.
