Exostoses - Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Which doctor should I consult for multiple osteochondromas? If you or your child suffer from or may suffer from multiple osteochondromas, you should consult your general physician. If your suspicions are confirmed, your doctor will refer you to a specialist. If you would prefer to consult a specialist directly, you should make an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon.
2. Can multiple exostoses skip a generation?
Under normal circumstances, children born to a couple with either parent suffering from multiple exostoses will also develop multiple exostoses. If it does so happen that a child is unaffected and does not develop multiple exostoses, the child will not pass the condition on to the next generation. In most cases where it appears that a child is unaffected even in adulthood, it is more likely that the symptoms are so mild that they have gone unnoticed.
