A thorough physical examination of the skin lesions and laboratory examination of the biopsied lesions are useful for diagnosing atopic dermatitis.The patient's and family history help to support the diagnosis.
Allergy skin test may be carried out to find the cause as any food or inhalant allergen.
Laboratory cultures are also done to see whether any bacterial or fungal infections are there.
