Dementia - Frequently Asked Questions

Medically Reviewed by dr. simi paknikar, MD on Jul 07, 2021

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which doctor should I consult for Dementia?

If you have reason to suspect dementia, consult your primary health care provider first. If you are not satisfied with the diagnosis or believe you need the expertise of a specialist, consult a clinic or hospital with neurologists and psychiatrists who are skilled in treating dementia and geriatric care.

2. Will my flu shots and silver dental filling increase the risk of dementia?

The connection between flu shots and the disease is actually baseless and was proposed by a doctor who had his license revoked! Evidence from studies, in fact, suggests that vaccination with flu vaccines and other vaccines ensures better health and may even reduce the risk of Alzheimer's. Although there are valid reasons for concerns about silver dental filling, it is considered safe as no studies have supported the claim of any additional risk.
