Alcohol and Driving - Final Word

Drink and driving is dangerous to yourself and others. The maximum accidents related to drinking happen during festivities like Christmas and New Year's eve. Most of the accidents involve multiple vehicles on high speed highways. Major injury or death causes physical trauma to the person driving but emotional trauma to the family members and friends.


So the next time you have had one too many and you put the car in gear and switch on the ignition of the vehicle, contemplate about these possible consequence. The most sensible thing to do is to lock your car, take a deep breath and call for a cab or request a friend to drop you home.

Some people when they go on an alcohol binge on a Saturday night with friends; ensure that one of them is sober to drive everyone back home safely. They take turns with this responsibility of safe driving.

Drink and driving remember is a criminal offence and it is a stigma if you are caught with this offence - even if you are not involved in an accident. If you hold an important position or are well known in the society like being a doctor, lawyer, a professor or celebrity, the stigma can haunt you for the rest of your life. The Police are obliged to give your name to the media and suddenly you may find that your notoriety becomes a point of discussion in your community.

As Knute Rockne says "Drink the first. Sip the second slowly. Skip the third."
