Three Women Critically Ill After Beauty Treatment in Hong Kong

by VR Sreeraman on October 5, 2012 at 7:54 PM

Three women, who underwent a procedure at a beauty center in Hong Kong, were diagnosed with septic shock and ended up in critical condition.

The city's health chief expressed shock over the incidents and ordered an investigation into the cases Friday, reported Xinhua.

The women, aged 46 to 60, sought hospital treatment after receiving intravascular infusions as a beauty treatment at a Causeway Bay beauty treatment center called DR Wednesday.

Ko Wing-man, a senior official, said the health department and police are investigating.

He said he was "shocked" by the cases, as intravascular infusion is a medical practice that should only be conducted under a doctor's supervision.

The health department has instructed the beauty treatment center to stop carrying out the procedure.
