New System to Treat Excessive Sweating of Underarms

by Dr. Trupti Shirole on February 11, 2011 at 11:45 PM

Excessive sweating of the underarms can now be treated with miraDry system, a product developed by Miramar labs from Sunnyvale.

Microwave energy is used in this system to cause thermal necrosis of sweat glands in the required area. It is a non-invasive treatment and requires a 2hour session with the doctor. The procedure is completed in 3steps- temporary markings are made on the skin, local anesthesia is administered and then the miraDry system is used.

The actual time period required for the treatment is about 40minutes. Just in case some areas are skipped, a touch up visit may be needed. The custom software makes it easier to carry out the process. Majority patients notice difference soon after the treatment.
